The day was celebrated as Malala Day on Twitter

Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai celebrated her 23rd birthday over the weekend with close family and friends.

Malala took to Instagram to share pictures of the happy occasion, beaming alongside her father and mother and her close friends. She also shared a beautiful family portrait with her two brothers in tow in another picture. "Chapter 23! Ready for a quarter-life crisis," she captioned the pictures cheekily. Many illustrious people also took to their social media accounts to wish Malala a very happy birthday, including former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. "Wishing a wonderful birthday to Malala! As we celebrate #MalalaDay, let’s not simply be in awe of her accomplishments. Let’s join her inspiring work for education and do our part to support the extraordinary talents and potential of girls around the world," she tweeted.

The day was also celebrated as Malala Day on Twitter, with many people around the globe joining in to pay homage to Malala and her work on her big day. “This #MalalaDay, let’s celebrate her triumph over adversity and relentless drive to put girls' education on the global agenda, inspiring millions around the world,” tweeted Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London.

Malala, who is the youngest Nobel Prize laureate and a recent Oxford graduate, was shot by the Taliban in her hometown of Swat at the tender age of 15 in 2012. Since then, she has been a strong voice of support for girls all over the world and made her mark in more ways than once.
