RAWALPINDI:

To treat sacrificial animals being brought to the cattle markets of the garrison city, free veterinary camps will be set up.

The free animal clinics will be set up in association with the veterinary department of the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (PMASAAU).

Officials of the PMASAAU veterinary department said that these clinics will be established from July 15. They will be set up at all entry and exit points to these markets.

The vets will remain at the clinics around the clock in shifts to treat animals for free.

They will also administer different vaccines to the sacrificial animals, including for the Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic fever (Congo virus), while they will also provide free services to sick animals in the cattle markets.

University officials said that animals brought to the markets, particularly from remote areas of Rawalpindi, often fall ill due to the change in environment and surroundings. This sometimes results in a loss of vendors as animals die or sometimes they contract a disease after they are purchased for fulfilling the religious obligation.

They added that the department will also spread awareness amongst livestock sellers so that the animals, as well as the people, can be kept safe from diseases.
