LAHORE:

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has said that carelessness regarding government-mandated SOPs on the occasion of Eidul Azha can aggravate the Covid-19 situation in Punjab.

Speaking to delegations of different districts at Governor House on Sunday, he added that citizens did not take coronavirus seriously on Eidul Fitr this year due to which everyone had witnessed the severity of the pandemic. “If we repeat the mistakes on Eidul Azha, there will be dangerous consequences for Punjab.”

He further said, “Therefore, in order to prevent the spread of the infectious disease, it is necessary to completely implement the SOPs. Even in the cattle markets, there is no room for negligence as avoiding precautionary steps can lead to a drastic increase in the number of virus patients.”

The governor elaborated that coronavirus had also disrupted entire economies across the world due to which Pakistan as well as countries such as the USA and the UK were also facing economic challenges. “Even under these circumstances, the government led by Prime Minister Imran Khan is using all its resources to strengthen the economy. The stock market has become the third largest market in the world with a record 7.2% growth for 10 consecutive days.”

The largest increase in business volume in six months is an important step towards the country's development, he stated.
