Three people were killed in a shootout over enmity between two groups, while a man killed his brother over a land dispute in villages near here on Saturday.
An old enmity resulted in an exchange of fire between two groups in Jakowala Khowa village. During the clash, Azam and his nephew Nadeem Qasim died on the spot. A member of the rival group, Fakhar, was also killed.
Fear and panic spread in the village due to the firing. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the clash. The bodies were shifted to a hospital in the area for postmortem after legal formalities.
Taking notice of the incident, Okara District Police Officer Omar Saeed Malik issued directives to the officials concerned to arrest the killers as soon as possible. He also called for providing all possible assistance to the families of the victims. The DPO action to apprehend the killers and ensure punishment for them should be taken urgently.
Meanwhile, a man killed his brother by hitting him with bricks in Chak No. 11/4L.
It was reported that brothers Hanif Masih and Aslam Masih were involved in land dispute.
The two brothers had an argument over the issue on Saturday, after which Hanif became enraged and started hitting Aslam with bricks. As a result Aslam succumbed to his injuries.
The accused managed to escape from the scene.
Incidents of murder over petty disputes involving group fights are common in the district. In March last year, a man was axed to death over a monetary dispute in which an argument broke out and escalated into a group fight over a small sum of Rs40.
