A Zaman Town police official was shot and injured by unidentified armed men in Korangi on Saturday.
According to Korangi SSP Faisal Abdullah Chachar, two unidentified men opened fire on the head constable, Asghar, from behind while he was on his way to work on a motorcycle. They then fired at him again after he fell down, took his pistol and fled, he said.
The SSP said that police had found two bullet shells from the crime scene and the attack on Asghar seemed to be similar to the one on constable Noman Ali, who was shot dead in Mehmoodabad last week. “Ali was attacked while on his way home from work and his weapon was also taken away by the attackers,” he explained.
Following the incident, Asghar was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors said he had been shot in the chest and leg. They further stated that one of his legs was fractured when he fell after being shot, adding, however, that his condition was stable.
Meanwhile, taking notice of the incident, Sindh IGP Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar directed relevant authorities to ensure that the injured cop was given proper medical treatment, stay in touch with his family and make all-out efforts to arrest the culprits. He also sought a report from SSP Chachar on legal action taken following the incident.
