ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Board of Education on Friday decided that result cards of students, who were promoted without examination due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) will say ‘promoted without exam’. The decision has sparked fears that these children may face discrimination in the future.

Meanwhile, matriculation results are also likely to be released in the third week of this month.

A document detailing the decisions taken during a meeting of the Board of Governors (BOG) of the Federal Board of Education, showed that it had endorsed decisions taken by the government in the interprovincial education ministers’ conference recently, to allow students to be promoted without sitting examinations.

The document, available with The Express Tribune, showed that the mark sheet will clearly state that the marks shown to be obtained by the student have been given under the special formula and include performance estimations.

Sindh's indecisiveness over matric, inter exams puts students future in jeopardy

“The marks awarded for the Part II is the best prediction of performance and has been awarded based on the formula and guidelines approved by the government of Pakistan,” will be the lines that the BOG will write on the result card of every student.

Academic experts said that the students of Covid-19 generation with "promoted" written on their result cards may face discrimination in practical life when the employers compare them with other students who passed after actually giving the exams.

Besides, the BOG has decided that students who have been promoted to grades X and XII can take part in the special examinations to improve upon their grades. These “improvement” exams, which can be approved by the FBISE chairman under hardship cases, will be held from September to November.

The results of the special exam will be considered final, after which the students will not be able to claim the result under the promotion formula.
