US thanks Pakistan for advancing Afghan peace process

State Department says Khalilzad, Boehler discussed peace process, investment opportunities during Islamabad visit

ISLAMABAD:

The US State Department said on Thursday, Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Chief Executive Officer Adam Boehler held discussion on regional peace process and investment opportunities to strengthen Pakistan’s economy during their visit to Islamabad on Wednesday.

According to a State Department statement, released by the US Embassy, Khalilzad and Boehler held meetings with Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and other officials.

During the meetings, Ambassador Khalilzad thanked Pakistani officials for their ongoing efforts to advance the peace process. He noted how close the sides were to starting intra-Afghan negotiations, and the importance of resolving remaining issues quickly, underscoring the promise peace holds for regional stability and development.

Boehler highlighted the mission of DFC and discussed investment opportunities to strengthen Pakistan’s economy and contribute to peace and stability in the region with senior officials, including Adviser to the Prime Minister for Commerce Razak Dawood, the statement added.
