ABBOTTABAD:

An incident of police brutality has been reported from the scenic Nathiagali where four cops reportedly beat up a man for allegedly smuggling drugs.

The Abbottabad DPO has suspended the officials involved while setting up a high-powered committee to probe the incident

On Saturday, a video started going viral on social media which showed the after-effects of torture inflicted by officials from the Nathiagali police station on a driver in a fake case of smuggling drugs.

A police spokesperson on Sunday said that Abbottabad District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Iqbal has taken notice of a video, doing the rounds on social media and that he had suspended the Nathiagali police post in-charge ASI Javed, Head Constable Qasir and two Constables Danish and Hanif, pending an inquiry.

Moreover, the DPO ordered a medical exam of the victim, Farooq, who had several marks on his body - allegedly obtained after being beaten with steel rods, sticks and leather belts.

The Abbottabad DPO called the victim to his office and, in the presence of the media, showed the torture marks.

He sympathised with the victim and promised to get him justice and give exemplary punishment to the officers involved - who are currently kept in a police lockup.
