17 railways police officials suspended

Police officials said that the action was taken after they received numerous complaints related to corruption

RAWALPINDI: As many as 17 officials of the Railways Police in Rawalpindi, including two station house officers, have been suspended on charges of corruption and irregularities.

Rawalpindi Railways Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shahzad Akbar suspended the officers including Rawalpindi Railway SHO SI Zulfiqar Ali and Sargodha Railway SHO SI Muhammad Ashraf.

The three picket in-charges suspended include Taxila ASI Ubaid Ullah, Haripur ASI Abdul Samad and Dry Port Sub-Inspector Tahir Abbas. Moreover, 12 constables were also suspended.

Police officials said that the action was taken after they received numerous complaints related to corruption, encroachment, and abuse of power against these officials.

They further added that the officials failed to furnish satisfactory answers to the competent authorities during hearings. A departmental inquiry against them has been launched and they have been replaced by other police officials.
