ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has begun countrywide training of investigation officers in modern techniques.

The NAB’s director-general for training and evaluation has disclosed plans of the bureau to conduct special refresher courses to equip its investigation officers with the most modern techniques in the fight against corruption.

In an exclusive interview with Express, Malik Tariq Nadeem Awan revealed that investigation officers of the NAB in Islamabad had already undergone training in a seven-day course which concluded on Saturday.

Training will begin in Peshawar from Monday under the programme known as the assets investigations cadre. Under the programme, NAB officers in regional bureaus all over the country will receive training.

He said the syllabus for newer officers would be updated to include modern techniques covered under the programme.

Expressing concern over stagnant knowledge of all those associated with NAB, he stressed the need to conduct similar courses for law officers and the judiciary, especially those dealing with anti-corruption cases of the NAB in order to bring more proficiency in the overall accountability setup.

The assets investigation cadre included briefings on white-collar crimes and banking fraud by experts from the financial and revenue sector.

On Friday, a senior official of the National Accountability Bureau had offered to drop politically motivated cases against political figures.
