Virus claims two more lives at Nishtar Hospital

1,385 suspected coronavirus patients admitted at the hospital

MULTAN: Two more coronavirus patients passed away at Nishtar Hospital in Multan during the last 24 hours.

The deceased individuals were identified as 70-year-old Tahir Zaidi, a resident of Multan, and Abid Rizwan, a resident of Dera Ghazi Khan. Nishtar Hospital Focal Person Dr Irfan Arshad provided the aforementioned details while talking to The Express Tribune.

“The total number of deaths due to coronavirus in Nishtar Hospital rose to 127 since April 1,” he remarked, adding, “55 patients suffering from the virus are currently undergoing treatment in the isolation wards of the hospital.”

He also revealed that the condition of 19 patients is critical, out of which nine patients have been shifted to a ventilator.

Meanwhile, test reports of 20 other coronavirus suspected patients, who are undergoing treatment at the hospital, are awaited. Dr Irfan Arshad said diagnostic tests of coronavirus have been carried out on samples of 18,045 people that were brought from Multan and south Punjab.

Out of these, as many as 2,567 people have tested positive for the deadly contagion.

Hospital sources said at least 267 people have been discharged from Nishtar Hospital after they recovered from the disease. The 54-member medical staff of Nishtar Hospital including 35 doctors, 13 nurses and other paramedical staff has tested positive for Covid-19.
