ISLAMABAD: After nearly nine years, the civic authority of the federal capital has started the process for completing the remaining work on converting the Service Road-North, from Sector I-10 to I-11, into a two-way road.

Officials in the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said that the remaining work will be completed at a cost of Rs34.848 million.

Tenders in this regard have been issued and will be opened this week after fulfilling all codal formalities

Work on dualising Service Road-North had started in 2011 and was due to be completed in 2012, but it never was.

Once complete, the project will ease the flow of traffic coming from the Kashmir Highway, Ninth Avenue and adjacent highways including the IJ Principal Road. It is a key route for the transportation of material for industrial areas in Sectors I-9 and I-10/3.

Last week, the authority had said that it had floated tenders for installing traffic lights at six locations along Ataturk Avenue in the federal capital. Moreover, CDA officials said that funds worth Rs7.611 million were issued for the project.

Moreover, CDA had issued tenders for building four box culverts in Sector I-11/2. The NIT of the project, worth around Rs137.42 million has also been issued.

The culverts, they said, have been planned in Sector I-11/2 to handle a higher rate of water flow than the already installed pipes. Apart from drainage, the culverts will also be able to accommodate vehicular and pedestrian movement.
