23 of 30 Rawalpindi SHOs are sub-inspectors

Posting of SI as SHO, when inspectors are available is violation of police rules

RAWALPINDI: Sub-inspectors are serving as station house officers (SHOs) in 23 of the 30 police stations in the district, though the posts are meant to be filled by more senior officers.

Sources informed The Express Tribune that at all the 30 police stations in the Rawalpindi district, including the only women police station, some six station house officers (SHOs) are inspectors while some 23 of them are sub-inspectors.

The posting of a sub inspector (SI) as an SHO, when inspectors are available, is a violation of police rules.

Only four SHOs hold a Master’s degree while 11 have completed graduation as Bachelor of Arts (BA),  sources said.

Two SHOs have completed B.Sc degree, an undergraduate academic degree in science, while two each have completed education till matric and intermediate, commonly known as FA and FS.c. Only a single SHO has a degree of Bachelor of Laws (LLB).

The SHOs who have just completed their matriculation include Muhammad Rafique and Muhammad Arif.

Israr Ahmed Satti and Allah Yar are among the officials who have completed their college degree in science subjects commonly known as F.Sc.

SHOs who have done intermediate in Arts (FA) include Ghazanfar Abbas, Ahsan Tanvir, Jawwad Abbas, Hasan Raza, Waqar Hussain, and Abdul Rasheed.

The officials who have completed their master’s degrees include Yasir Mehmood, Kamran Jamshed Kiyani, Ahmed Nawaz, and Muhammad Asif.

The BA degree holders are Nadeem Zafar, Shafqat Ali, Tahir Rehan, Waqas Safeer, Asif Sajjad, Pervez Akhtar, Habibur Rehman, Aijaz Hussain, Zaheer Ahmed Butt, Imran Abbas, and Yasir Mahmood Abbasi.

Those holding a B.Sc degree include Nadeem Abbas and Fakhar Alam Khan.

Further, Inspector Javed Iqbal, who holds an LLB degree, is deployed at the New Town police station. The Cantt SHO Aizaz Azeem, holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the inspector-level officials are not highly regarded with esteem in the Punjab police, and most of them are deployed on lower positions in the police special branch, police lines, and counter-terrorism department (CTD).

Moreover, in the new budget, the Punjab government has decided to establish four new police stations in the district besides increasing the number of pickets and upgrading the investigation system.
