RAWALPINDI: The metropolitan, municipal corporations, district councils, municipal committees, town committees have sought suggestions from the ruling party members of the national and provincial assemblies for development schemes to be carried out under the provincial annual budget 2020-21.

It may be recalled that the local bodies in Punjab were dissolved two and a half years before the expiration of their term and it was announced that elections would be held under the new local body system. These institutions are being run by administrators for the past one and a half years and development schemes are being formed on the suggestions of the members of the provincial and national assemblies.

Sources told The Express Tribune that now after allocating development funds in their budgets, all the local bodies of Punjab would include the development schemes proposed by the members of the assembly in the development plan for which development funds would be set aside for assembly members too.

This would be done In order to create environment conducive environment for the ruling party at the grassroots level before the elections by implementing development schemes through the members of the assembly, which would ultimately benefit the ruling party candidates in the upcoming local government elections.
