Woman jumps into Chenab River with three children

Mother of three saved from drowning by Rescue 1122 while search for children underway

MUZAFFARGARH: A woman attempted suicide and jumped from a bridge, with her three minors, into the Chenab River at Multan Road in Muzaffargarh on Friday.

Rescue 1122 officials said that the incident took place around 12 noon when 25-year-old Rabia, wife of Faheem and a mother of three, attempted suicide over domestic issues by jumping from the Chenab bridge.

Officials added that Muzaffargarh Rescue 1122 District Emergency Officer (DEO) Dr Muhammad Irshadul Haq and AC Rana Amjad reached the spot after being informed of the incident, as they were visiting a nearby embankment.

On receiving information, Rescue 1122 teams reportedly reached within eight minutes of the incident and rescued the woman from drowning.

The victim was shifted to a hospital whereas search was underway, with the help of boats, for the children. According to the DEO, the search operation to find the children would be continued. The minor victims were identified as 5-year-old Abiha, 3-year-old Nihal and one-year-old Wajid.

The woman reportedly decided to drown herself and her children because of continuous fights with her husband.

Meanwhile, two persons drowned into Chenab River near Head Muhammad Wala while taking bathe in Multan. According to Rescue 1122 officials, two persons identified as 30-year-old Shabbir, son of Allah Yar and 32-year-old Rizwan, son of Faiz Buksh, went to Head Muhammad Wala area for picnic while they were swimming. The victims reportedly swam into deep water and eventually drowned. Upon receiving information, a Rescue 1122 team rushed to the spot and started search operation.
