Drowning woman saved by rescue team says man swam to bank

OKARA: A young man and woman tried to commit suicide by jumping into a canal on Wednesday, reportedly after facing opposition to their love affair.

Sources revealed that the two lovebirds jumped into Renala Khurd Canal together to commit suicide. The young man named Muhammad Ali is a resident of Samundari, and the woman, Ghulam Zuhran, a resident of Faisalabad.

Reportedly, Ali escaped from the nearby bank while the drowning woman was saved by a rescue team.

After a statement given by the woman, Rescue 1122 stopped the search for the young man. Renala Police Station SHO Zaman Joya stated that Zuhran and Ali had jumped together into the canal to commit suicide.

The rescue teams saved the woman in a state of unconsciousness.

When Zuhran regained consciousness in the hospital, she told the police that she had jumped into the canal along with her lover, but Ali escaped from the canal while she was still drowning in the water.
