Police took the body into custody and started investigation.
The victim, 45-year-old Fatima Bibi, wife of Nazar Mohammad, a resident of Ghousia Colony Kalianwala, had a domestic dispute with her son Fazal. The son gave poison to her.
When her condition worsened, she was taken to the THQ Hospital where she was pronounced dead by the doctors. Police reached the hospital and and took away the body for postmortem.
The police also started a search for the suspect, Fazal. So far in the year 2020, five cases have been reported in Faisalabad in which the killers murdered their mother or father for property.
The cases were reported in Garh police station, Nishatabad and Tandlianwala, out of which the accused in two cases have been arrested so far by the police.
Faisalabad CPO Capt (retd) Sohail Chaudhry told The Express Tribune that the accused involved in the murder of parents often had domestic quarrels and most of the cases took place in rural areas.
He maintained that usually, the main reason for the murder is the division of property. Apart from such cases, reportedly, the trend of violence against elderly parents is also on the rise in rural areas.
He highlighted that often such cases are resolved through Panchayat instead of involving the police.
The CPO stated that when an FIR is filed, the police take immediate action in this regard. Chaudhry was optimistic that the accused will be arrested soon. Referring to such cases, a social worker, Advocate Rana Haseeb, told The Express Tribune that measures to promote tolerance from education and social empowerment are a vital need of the society at present in rural areas.
“Due to lack of education, extremism, and traditional views, such cases are prevalent,” he said. “There is a need to spread awareness among the teachers and personalities working for social betterment with effective strategies to lay the foundation of strengthening the society by promoting tolerance,” he said.
