Sabiha Khanum: Celebrities mourn loss of the legend

Mahira Khan, Mawra Hocane and others took to Twitter to pay their respects

Legendary actor Sabiha Khanum passed away over the weekend, aged 83. Since her passing, several prominent figures of the entertainment industry in Pakistan have taken to social media to offer their condolences.
Superstar Mahira Khan went on Twitter to thank the late actor for her contributions to the industry. "Aap theen toh hum aaj hein (We are here today because you were there before us). Thank you for paving the way. You will always be remembered," she said.

Likewise, Mawra Hocane also talked about how the current generation of female actors owe a lot to Khanum. “Legends never die! Thank you for paving the way for all of us! Sabiha Khanum jee. may you rest in eternal peace!"

Bilal Ashraf expressed sorrow, stressing Khanum's contribution to the industry, as he shared a photo of her's. Another huge loss. Pakistan’s legendary artist Sabiha Khanum Jee. May her soul rest in peace. Ameen," he said.

Actor Zhalay Sarhadi asked her followers to share a prayer for Khanum. "Please say a prayer for our original female superstar Sabiha Khanum. May her soul rest in peace. Inna lilahe wainna elaihe raje’oun," she said.

Singer Farhan Saeed deemed her passing the 'end of an era'. "The end of an era and a sad, sad day for Pakistan's entertainment industry. Rest in peace, Sabiha Khanum. You will be missed. You definitely were the queen of silver screen," he tweeted.

Industry veteran and talk show host Samina Peerzada was all praises for Khanum. "Madam Sabiha Khanum. A great star; a legend. A kind and loving lady. I have beautiful memories of knowing her. RIP, lovely soul," she tweeted

Khanum was known as the First Lady of Pakistani silver screen, with some of her best films being Ayaz (1960), Saath Laakh (1957), Kaneez (1965), Anjuman (1970) and Tehzeeb (1971).

She was also conferred with the Pride of Performance in 1986 for her contribution to Pakistan’s film industry.
