The chief justice remarked that the elimination of environmental pollution should be the first priority

ISLAMABAD: A commission has been set up to implement the recommendations of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on controlling environmental pollution in the capital. Dr Pervez Hassan has been appointed as the Chairman of the Commission for the Elimination of Environmental Pollution.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah was presiding over the contempt of court proceedings for non-implementation of the 2015 Environmental Commission’s recommendations pending since 2018.

The court reserved judgment in the contempt of court case against the federal government.

During the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Tayyab Shah, Climate Change Ministry Secretary Naheed S Durrani, Interior Ministry Secretary Azam Suleman Khan, CDA officials and DG Environmental Protection Agency Farzana Altaf appeared before the court.

The chief justice remarked that the elimination of environmental pollution should be the first priority of the government.
