According to budget documents, the federal government has earmarked Rs4.52 billion in the Public Sector Development Programme for on-going and new development schemes of the federal education ministry. This, however, is down from the Rs4.797 billion it had earmarked for the ministry in the outgoing fiscal year.
The budget documents showed that Rs4.17 billion has been earmarked for on-going schemes and Rs355 million for new schemes of the ministry.
Upgrading capital’s institutes
In the federal capital, the government aims to spend Rs200 million each for setting up Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) in Sector G/13-2, and one in Sector G-15.
Moreover, it has allocated Rs190.24 million for the Federal College of Home Economics in Sector F-11.
The government will also spend Rs10.5 million on the IMCB in Margalla Town, Rs20.25 million for the IMCB in Pakistan Town, and.Rs20 million each for Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) in sectors G-13 and G-14.
A sum of Rs60.47 million has been designated for the Islamabad Model College in Ghora Shahan.
Moreover, Rs40.37 million have been kept for the establishment of a Poly Technic Institute for Women in Sector H-8/1, and Rs30.77 million has been earmarked for the reconstruction of Islamabad Model School for Girls in Tarlai.
Some Rs5.1 million for building boundary walls of Islamabad Model College for Women in Sector I-8/3 and Rs100 million for completing the remaining development work in IMCG Bara Kahu.
The government has also allocated Rs100 million for upgrading all high schools in the federal capital.
Further, Rs60 million has been earmarked for reforming the recruitment process in the Federal Directorate of Education.
Other schemes
Among the on-going schemes, Rs1.1 billion has been allocated for the establishment of a Directorate General of Religious Affairs (DGRE). Moreover, Rs86.8 million has been allocated for the establishment of the National Curriculum Council (NCC) Secretariat.
Among the new schemes, Rs150 million has been earmarked for introducing the project of Matric-Tech Pathways for Integrating Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Formal Education.
The government has allocated Rs140.2 million for awarding scholarships to students from the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IoJK).
Further, Rs70 million have been allocated for the E-learning programme, Rs5 million for Stem Project. The government will also spend Rs800 million for repair work in schools under the Prime Minister Education Reforms Programme, while Rs7 million have been allocated for deworming drives for schoolchildren.
A sum of Rs5 million has been affixed for the construction of a hostel for the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design (PIFD) in Lahore while Rs10 million has been earmarked for building a graduate block at the National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore. A further Rs250.46 million has been earmarked for revamping of NCA.
In the federal budget, funds worth Rs30 million have been earmarked for the Education Voucher Scheme and Rs30.28 million has been earmarked under the enhancement programme for Education Managers.
