Govt takes over three PMEB seminaries

The ministry intends to establish 12 separate directorates in different parts of the country

ISLAMABAD: As part of the move to bring religious seminaries into the mainstream, the federal education ministry on Thursday took over the administrative control of three model madrassas of the Pakistan Madrasah Education Board (PMEB).

A notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training on Thursday. It read that the administrative control has been designated to the ministry in light of the federal cabinet's decision taken in its meeting held on December 19 last year.

The federal education ministry officials said of three model seminaries, one of which is dedicated for girls and located in Islamabad, while two others are dedicated for boys only in Karachi and Sukkur respectively.

The ministry has assumed the administrative powers of the religious seminaries with teaching and administrative staff along with posts and budgets.

The notification also stated that if required, the ministry can shift these madrasahs to its buildings located in the respective cities.

The officials further said that the federal education ministry has already set up a separate directorate for the religious seminaries for carrying out their registration as part of the project to bring them in the mainstream.

The ministry also intends to establish 12 separate directorates in different parts of the country. However, the registration process has been halted due to the coronavirus situation in the country.
