Export of auto parts set to begin

Local company gears up to ship absorber FR bumpers to Vietnamese carmaker

KARACHI: A new era has begun for the automobile industry in Pakistan as AuVitronics Limited, a local company, is gearing up to export absorber FR bumpers to Toyota Motor Vietnam, thus joining the league of global auto parts suppliers for Toyota’s international supply chain.

Approved after a rigorous process and stringent quality checks, the auto parts would be installed on the rear side of the front bumper cover in new Corolla models in Vietnam.

The impact absorbers are made of expanded polypropylene, a material that effectively reduces vehicle weight when placed in rear seat benches or wheel cases, and provides good basis for safety-related parts in the vehicle.

As Toyota readies to introduce the Corolla model in Vietnam, similar to variants in Pakistan, Indus Motor Company (IMC) requested Toyota Motor Corporation to have the parts supplied to the Vietnamese counterpart through AuVitronics Limited.

Keeping in view the strict timelines of Toyota Motor Vietnam, Indus Motor, along with the local supplier, reduced the development lead time to half in order to meet the export demand, said Indus Motor CEO Ali Asghar Jamali. He cherished the move, saying the company was achieving new successes.

As part of the global supply chain of Toyota, AuVitronics will help further develop the industrial base in the country. He recalled that Indus Motor had helped local vendors sign around 30 technical assistance agreements with foreign companies in that regard.

Jamali emphasised that the government should help nurture the industry and make growth-oriented interventions to generate revenue from higher sales volume rather than increased taxes. “Only consistency in policies can help achieve the long-term objective of automobile exports,” said Jamali.

“It is a great pleasure to become part of Toyota’s global supply chain,” remarked AuVitronics CEO Syed Abbasul Hussaini. “It is the beginning of a new era for the local automobile industry as new export markets have opened.”

House of Habib Auto Engineering Department Vice Chairman Muhammad Tayyab Tareen said the group was making efforts to enhance exports as they were essential for accelerating economic growth in the country.

He termed it the first step towards meeting the objective of exports and promised further initiatives in the future.
