MULTAN: A 20 kilogrammes of tumor was removed from a citizen’s abdomen by a senior surgeon of Nishtar Hospital after a successful surgery on Friday.

Haji Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Tehsil Rohilanwali of Muzaffargarh, was brought to a private hospital in Multan due to his rapidly gaining weight, abdominal pain, and deteriorating health.

The CT scan revealed a tumor in the patient's abdomen, based on which the hospital's consultant surgeon and assistant professor of surgery Dr Khadim Hussain decided to operate the patient.

The 60-year-old patient Haji Bashir’s stomach was connected to the ribs due to a tumor weighing 20 kg and the brain had problems with blood supply.

After a complicated 3.5-hour operation, the tumor was removed from the patient's abdomen. The patient has been recovering since then.

“Such a big tumor removal surgery had not been performed in the hospitals of South Punjab before,” said Dr Hussain after the successful operation.

He added that he had previously removed 15kg of tumors from the stomachs of two women.

Bashir stated that he has already visited various hospitals in Lahore for treatment but no doctor took his illness seriously. “Dr Hussain has proved to be a messiah for me,” said the patient.
