Militant targets: Politicians, officers on hit list

Those on the hit list were accused of targeting ‘Mujahideen’.

LAHORE: A meeting of militants in Darra Adam Khel was convened a week ago to create a special task force assigned to assassinate politicians, senior police officers, senior army officers and their close relatives, an intelligence report has said.

Those on the hit list were accused of targeting ‘Mujahideen’. According to the report, a man named Ilyas Mujahid has been newly chosen as a militant commander in the region. Leaders of 13 militant groups have promised to extend full support to him. The hit list includes Interior Minister Rehman Malik, legislator Amir Muqam, Awani National Party President Asfandyar Wali Khan, chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl Maulana Fazlur Rehman, former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Inspector General Police Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Fayaz Ahmad Khan Tooro and Superintendent of Police Criminal Investigation Department Karachi Muhammad Aslam Khan.
