In a bid to sell the ongoing Pakistan-India dialogue to the Indian parliament, Foreign Minister SM Krishna told fellow lawmakers that visiting Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar had been informed how unhappy India was at her meeting with leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) during her recent visit, before the bilateral meetings took place.
India also asked Pakistan to act on the dossiers regarding seven individuals suspected of being involved in the 2008 Mumbai attacks and the need to provide voice samples, he said.
“Pakistan was asked to investigate the links with some elements in the Pakistani security agencies that had emerged from the evidence presented in the Tahawwur Rana trial in the United States,” Krishna told the Indian lawmakers.
“I called for credible and effective action against jihadi leaders such as Hafiz Saeed and terrorist groups such as Jamaat-ud-Daawa and Lashkar-e-Taiba,” he added.
At the beginning of every session of parliament, it is obligatory for the foreign minister to brief the legislators about the visits of important dignitaries in the inter session period.
Krishna told the lawmakers that the dialogue with Pakistan was moving forward briskly after the meeting of the two foreign secretaries in February 2011 in Thimphu, Bhutan.
India wants to reduce the trust deficit with Pakistan and move forward in a friendly manner, Krishna said. “I conveyed [to Pakistan] that India desires a stable and prosperous Pakistan, acting as a bulwark against terrorism, at peace with itself and with its neighbours,” he added.
Krishna’s statement will be considered the authoritative account of the meeting of the two ministers and will put parliament’s stamp on the resumed dialogue.
Appeasing the hawks
To appease the hawks in the house, Krishna said that he had asked Pakistan about the fulfillment of the commitments made during the home/interior secretary level talks in March 2011 on the trial and investigation, going on in Pakistan, in the Mumbai attacks case.
“According to her, Pakistan was not trying to abdicate responsibility,” Krishna said.
“On her meeting with the Hurriyat leaders, she informed me that Pakistan wanted to engage all stakeholders,” Krishna told the MPs.
On Jammu and Kashmir, the approach is to increase convergence and reduce divergence, Krishna said. He added that it was a matter of satisfaction for India that Pakistan had acknowledged the need to grant the most-favoured nation (MFN) status to India which would also help expand bilateral trade relations.

@Rock: "Indians are united are you united like Indians?"
You have been fed with propaganda from Shiv Sena and other fanatical organisations, as your Pakistaniphobic comments suggest all around the site, A long time ago, I remember during my visit to London, UK, my interaction with a couple of Punjabi-speaking Sikhs. They were originally from Canada and were on a tour to UK. After a while, we got talking and I reemember bringing up the subject of how frequently they visited India. During that discussion, I saw firsthand how they expressed their distaste of India and wish to seperate. The scars of the 1984 riots were still fresh in most of them; they told me how their womenfolk had been raped, children and babies burned alive and men shot mercilessly. They vehemently supported the idea of Khalistan and said it was their dream that Punjab be split from India. They said they silently supported and sent funds to Khalistan organisations based in Indian Punjab.
Again, these are just a sample of Sikhs whom your state has neglected and who are hell bent on carving out a country of their own and achieve freedom. The UK is also flooded with Kashmiris, many of whom I also met. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what many of them think about your beloved India.
You can continue to live in your grand mode of delusion and artificial sense of patriotism. But remember, these countries are still fighting for freedom and if lucky, will achieve independence. It is better for you and other Indians to come back to reality and see what u really mean. So mr hedgefunder, who's being the incredible fool in denial here?
So much for your unification comment. Most Indians are probably only good at unifying on Pakistani online news websites :)
It may also interest you to note that how those same Sikhs also pointed out that most of the Indian armed forces are made up of Punjabis. If Khalistan really becomes independent, you would know what would become of your army. So better to fix up the issues and reconciliate with the Sikhs. Else wait for your country to disintegrate.
Regards
@Incredible: Tell the fool to check it out as to progress, both economically and socially that Country has made too!!!!
@Rock...listen degree holder of Abhinav Bharat/Shiv Sena school. This is a Pakistani news site. Instead of 'unifying' here, can you all go and 'unify' yourselves somewhere else? Thanks if you do the favour.
Oh and by the way you didnt answer my question. WHen do you plan to hand over Khalistan, Assam, North East India, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal (part of Bangladesh), Minocoy Islands (belonging to Maldives), Junagadh, Hyderabad and Kashmir? The poor people of these territories have struggled for independence more so than the Balochis
@Someone: We did make Bangladesh independent.
@Someone: Listen the degree holder of Zaid hamid school. Indians are united are you united like Indians?
@omar: hee hee...first look at the size of your own land. You have already lost Bangladesh & Baluchistan and pretty soon you will have to say goodbye to Karachi.
@Dr. Salim, Sorry, bro, cant agree with you, because facts are different than you suggest. See, right after Mumbai attacks, Pakistani Prime Minister hastily agreed to send Suja Pasha to India for talks but no, within 24 hours he came under such pressure from Army that he withdrew his comments. We are dealing with a country which India policy directed by army. if you watch Aapas ki Baat of Nazam Sethi for the historical perspective of blunders in Pak history, broadcast on 2nd and 3rd August, you will get a new insight. But any Pakistani, talking a sane language is dubbed "on payroll of RAW" without delay. In process truth becomes first and biggest casuality.
@narayana murthy: Don't threat My dear Hindu banya.. We don't take these threat.. Whatever is in mumbai is your Own mess clean it and Buzz off.
Dear Pakistani friends: You do have to understand that weeding terrorism out helps your own country too. Prosperity, development and peace only happpen in countries who have gottten their acts together and concentrate on education, economy and work to improve the lives of their masses. Hopefully, your leaders will chhose to go in the right direction and work with India and other countries in eliminating terrorism.
@samefullindian Samefullindian is not indian.he not know anything about gandhiji and india.
Mr Krishna, please stop the jokes. You are asking Taleban to prosecute Al-Qaida.
@m waqas: Your knowledge of history is flawed to the border of idiocy, suggest you google the topic and absorb the facts and than attempt to present it!!!!
@m waqas: on Narayana Murthy
The debate is about nations, why drag religion, madrassa education, learn from Indian Muslims how to follow Islam.
@shamefulindian....we are ashamed of an illiterate like you...you cant be an indian. you dont know anything about Gandhiji or anyone...nor you are understanding the issue at hand here.
@narayana murth first of all India is meddling into the affairs of all these countries you mentioned. and remember there is a saying in urdu or hindi u can call it "baghal main churi moun main ram ram " it is taken from typical hindu mentality that they will attack you whenever you are weak and salute you if you are stronger . you mentioned wars of 1965 and 1971 who went to tashkant first to beg Russia to stop the war ??? it was lal bahadur shaastry and you said we want to live in peace tell me something who attacked lahore sector in 1965?? and who entered in bengal ? i think hindus just cant forget that muslims have ruled india over a thousand years so they want to do the same with their "akhand bharat" concept which they will never be able to do
@Bangash...Again I ask you, where is the hate speech? Do you even understand what we have written?
And stop asking us to go to other forums. We are already there on other forums :))
@Shameful Indian.
Nobody is asking Pakistan to clean up India's mess. We are asking Pakistan to clean the mess in their country, which is reeking terrible into our country.
Army withdrawal is not as simple as you think it is. Pakistan has waged wars against India. Do you think, Kashmir without troops will be not luring to Pakistan?
Indian posters are again requested to go to an Indian military forum where they can continue their hate speech against Pakistan. This is a Pakistani website.
@Bangash...who is talking about punishing Pakistan?
@Bangash: I am glad you agree with me, but please note I did not say this to please Indian or to increase your score in argument. While this is true that India itself took step to punish those behind Samjhota blast, it is also fact that the reason why Mumbai case is not solved is due to utter arrogance by India and instead of going behind the few who did it it wants to punish whole of Pakistan. How do you expect us to respond ? Certainly elected ellites in both our countries are people with gigantic ego who would not bow downt to other even when they know they are at loosing end. In such a case a peaceful and meaningful way to resolve the case could have expedited this case long time ago. But unwarranted provocation by India and hopeless denials by Pakistan, has left this case in a limbo. I am sure if India had taken more human approach and had played within amiable diplomatic rules Pakistan would have responded more positively. Again my statement is not against any country and not to support any country. My view and opinion is for common people of both countries cause it is us who suffer in the end. I would rather hope this case gets resolved in absolute fairness and all those who are behind this coward act are behind bars. Both India and Pakistan need to co-operate each other and keep up hopes. There will be many forces at act who will try to prevent meaningful solution, we need to be aware of them and try harder to prevent blaming the entire community. Blaming each other community has what led us to generations of hatred against each other. Peace to all ! Khuda Hafiz!
@ Bangash - do you have to go make Pakistanis look dumb all over ET? Please stop. You are reducing the value of my stock in Pakistan's future.
@Bangash: In comments some months back, Palisyanis were calling ET an American agent. Why are you on this website?
@Bangash: Do you seriously think a paki can come up with such a website. Any paki who feels this is a pakistani website, should just go to IHT to get his answer. This is just a pakistani specific version of an international website.
It would be better for these BHUKIs or PAKIs to head back to their Jahil hamid because thats what enters their thick heads.
Leave the Web and the contemporary media for the educated and moderate citizens of the world.
The extremists should go back in their caves where they can peacefully plan of bombing away pakistan.
@M. Waqas who says "those who think that pakistan is like palestine should wake up from their dreams . had pakistan been like palestine , India would have chewed pakistan long time ago ."
Please don't insult our honesty or our intelligence. Today, if India wages a war against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or Nepal, we would annihilate them and acquire their land. No one will ever come to their rescue and they don't have nukes to protect them.
But you know what? India is a status quo country (notwithstanding the editorial of Ejaz haider). India will not attack these countries, because...1) we don't seek land, 2) They have a right to live peacefully, 3) It would be demonic, immoral and unbelievably cruel if India ever attacked these countries.
now, guess what?!!! Pakistan in 1971 or 1965 was no different from what these countries are today. India could have made immense advances into Pakistan in both these wars. What for?!!! What would we have gained?!!!
So...logic is, Pakistan was like Palestine...however, India is not Israel. Don't take our goodness for granted...it's not an ultimatum. It's a request.
@Roflcopter: Hafiz Saeed is a preacher of Islam and doing DAWAA (spreading Islam) honourable work. He is also doing lot of social services.
Therefore, India should stop wasting her time and energy against him. On the contrary, they must concentrate on Shiv Sena Leader Baal Thakray who threatens Indian Government quiet often openly.
Regards
Dr. Saleem Siddiqi Johannesburg - South Africa
Hang Modi first.
@ Dr. Salim...fantastic. You hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head. Now, i also request you to take a look at how India dealt with the perpetrators of the Samjhautha bombing. Did Pakistan prod India to take action? NO. Did international community pressurize India to take action against them? NO. In fact, except for the Indian intelligence, no one outside ever knew about the involvement of Indians in Samjhauta bombing. India could have hidden it. Shouted to the world that "there was no evidence to prove that any Indian is involved". The world would have believed. Trust me. The world would have suspected a Pakistani hand in it.
Given the current situation/position of Pakistan, the world would have bought the theory that Pakistan was behind it.
India did it on its own. We took action. The perpetrators are behind bar.
Is it too much to ask a country to arrest known terrorists? Is it too much to ask a country to do what is in its own best interest? My god! I fail to understand Pakistan.
@Birbal...I liked your comment. perhaps, in the long run, Pakistan cannot touch India. However, in the short run Hafeez saids of pakistan can inflict damage to India.
There are some Pakistanis who say that Pakistan should keep supporting the Kashmir issue. Honestly, I fail to understand what they are gaining. I bet, Allah is not pleased with them and they are not gaining a penny of benefit. Why don't these people listen to the likes of Ahmed rashid, Pervez Hoodhboy, Najam Sethi, Hasan Nisar, Hamid Mir? I fail to understand.
One thing that I strenuously like to stress upon is that Pakistan is the only country in the world, which refuses to learn from its mistake. In other words, here are 180 million people who refuse to learn from their mistakes and keep repeating them.
here is my urge. Please give up your ego. Please look to the future. India is willing to forget the past. You do that too. For one goddamn split second, give up your ego and be practical 9leave aside your jazba), leave your self destructive tendencies and be constructive. It's okay even if you don't want to arrest Hafeez Saeed, just don't let these people inflict more damage to our country. We will help you rebuild your country. Again, you have to give up the ego. ego has not served one single human being. Is that not what is taught in your Qoran, also?
UN bannnd organization, JuD's Hafeez Saeed is a religious , peaceful, great man and people like him will take Pakistan to new heights of peace and prosperity. A real jewel of the state.
What is wrong if somebody is asking to arrest the perpetrators of a terrorist attack ? Why are we Pakistanis getting riled up as if we know the JuD leader personally ? Instead of mud slinging and finger pointing terrorism cases in both countries should be resolved outside the light of religion or communal association. Please remember the ones who are terrorists are neither muslim nor hindu and also neither Pakistani or Indian. These animlas are not human to be granted any human rights. But still in our civilized world we should punish them within the civilized legal laws. I request my Pakistani brothers and Indians to refrain from accusing a community or country and just focus on the actual actors of these attack irrespective of their citizenship and religious association. Khuda Hafiz!
@aryabhat/anil those who think that pakistan is like palestine should wake up from their dreams . had pakistan been like palestine , India would have chewed pakistan long time ago . indian establishmen knows this reality so you should learn this aswell. 25th of may 1998 go and ask mr lal krishin advani ;)
India has been calling for this for past few years !! Save your breath, as its wasted on the Deaf people ! Until as such time, when their own basic survival as nation is going to be threatened by these very people, who they call their "Strategic Assets" !!!!!
Mr. Kishna , Just maintain status-quo with Pak. Simple maths says that with 8 to 9 % growth rate, India will be miles ahead in 10 to 15 years. They will have nothing but "Atum" bombs. Infact , I dont even care about this guy Saeed. He is too small to inflict any damage to India as a nation. India will win the race as long as we keep evolving our democracy & secular fabric.
@ashok sai: we dont want to normalise ties with u, ur country is snake always bites in back, there was peace talk going on before 1965 than u attacked lahore. but always remember, if u attack us agin, pakistan army is the army of allah, and we will cut u down to the size of fri lanka, inshallah!!
@Incredible: Apparetnly Pakistan has NOT done any harm to china on official level, pretty unlike india, which is ditching its ally Russia in favor of US arms. ofcourse non-state actors are a different matter all-together. and yes majority of Pakistani's have no intention to built any kind of relation with india, as we know well how hypocrite you guys as a nation are. india has lies and deciet as its founding principles.
Last night TV ASIA-USA said in India 2/3 or 66% of state population is effected by Mao’s and their terrorism. Life in remote areas is not safe. India has wide range of problem of its own many people don’t know. Problem in sub continent is poverty and lack of educations. High life of Bombay, Karachi or Delhi is not enough. If you want peace, try to improve life of ordinary public. As long the high poverty exist this problem will never go
Mosiqar USA
Krishnaji, don't keeps your hopes too high. The current Govt, even if they want to, can't take any action against Jud. Sorry, but that is the truth.
@ashok sai: We Dont Even Want to. Eh! as if Pakistan is dying for normalization.
Taking action against JUD means action taking against top leadership of PML (N), JI, JUI so on and so forth who ever comes under these categories. World likes it or not this is it..
Hafiz Saeed Was NOT Directly Involved There are no Evidences of his involvement So on what grounds pakistan can take Action against Hafiz Saeed ? Indians are cry babies. From Ravi Shastri to SM Krishna.
Hafiz Saeed is a stretegic asset who provides strategic depth and is a jewel of the state.
This is something India need to learn from Israel. If 26/11 would have been Tel Aviv then EVERY and ANY one who planned would have been already 6 feet under, by now.
Capability to neutralise Terror exporters IN Pakistan is a must if India ever want to grow big.
Hafiz Saeed is innocent. India needs to stop crying
These are diplomatic statements, always made by diplomats, including Indians. The hiden agenda and decisions made behind the curtain determine rules of the game. The chess-board of India and Pakistan talks is very tricky.
Mr.Krishna as well as whole UPA's spinless leaders shouldn't talk this things repeatedly. When LTTE assasinated our late PM ,did they inform Indian gov before it?When Pak based terrorists attack any where in India,do they inform Indian gov before to it ?If terrorists do such things ,they why can't Indian gov do it for a nobel cause ?Take a cue from Israel and learn how did they kill all the terrorist leaders of Hammas. After all what is the meaning of feeding the intelligence officials from our income tax ?Don't do any developemental work with our tax for us,but at least do this thing for the sake of country.
Now there will be a flood of comments from the indians. Indians must understand that pakistanis will oppose against oppression of muslims anywhere in the world. The chinese will realize it soon too, inshallah.
& indians should realize that 90% of pakistan read urdu newspapers & your comments wont affect the morale of people!
Unless we develop capacity to inflict significant pain on Pakistani establishment for their acts of terror on our soil, we will draw no response from Pakistani for our pleas/entreaties. Till we acquire such capability, we have to bear cross border terror and learn to deal with it as and when it appears on our soil.
@Indians : We need to understand that just blaming Pakistan will not help us. Pakistan owns a part of the problem. What have we done to find and punish those insiders who have helped the 26/11 perpetrators? We need to be vigilant enough to detect such atrocities in prior and negate them. For that we need to fill up the gaps within our security system and people. Have we done that? If no then blaming Pakistan is just to put cover on our inabilities to protect ourselves.
We need to learn a lot from US. After 9/11 they came up with multilevel approach. At one hand they send their army to tackle the roots of terrorism. On the other hand they strengthened their internal defense to mitigate any further such instances on their country. While we are not in a position to adopt the offensive approach, we can surely work on the Level 2 approach to build our defense rather than just cribbing on Pakistan to take responsibility of the terrorists. But the important question is where are we on that?
P.S. Even today I saw a news where a ghost ship got docked in Mumbai beach without raising any alarms through the 3 layered security apparatus introduced by us.
Mr. krishna, as an indian I feel sorry for you. You believe Mr.rahman malik. :)
I think it's futile for India to ask Pakistan to do anything. Pakistan doesn't like it. While it is a question of ego, listening to Indians is tantamount to debunking two nation theory. How can you listen to the same people, with whom you couldn't live as one nation?
There's a way to get Pakistan to act.
Now, that China has also openly blamed Pakistan, take China into confidence, at least on the issue of terrorism. This won't happen in a month or a year. It might take several years or decades. Make China understand that, Pakistan clamping down on terrorists is in everyone's interest. Then, convey the message to Pakistan through China.
Mr. Krishna please do not commit to build with Pakistan. They have not even spared their all-weather friends.
