10 killed during holidays in Haripur

Local police registered some 188 cases over the violation of the ban

HARIPUR: Various incidents during the Eidul Fitr holidays have claimed as many as 10 lives, including those of two women, in the Haripur district, the local police told The Express Tribune.

In the Sera-i-Salih, a person named Mehrban alias Bana was found slaughtered in the area.

In another incident, a watchman died when he was struck by a speeding motorbike.

Moreover, two women were killed in a gun attack. An autopsy showed that one of the two victims was pregnant, local police said. In a separate firing incident, a passerby Abdul Sibtain was killed, police added.

In the Khanpur area, 70-year-old Abdul Ghazi drowned in the lake. However, his body remains missing.

Police have registered cases and launched investigations.

Meanwhile, a game of hide and seek continued between visitors and the police continued on the third day of eid. The government has imposed a ban on the gathering of tourists at scenic spots in the area under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

Local police said that so far, it has registered some 188 cases over the violation of the ban throughout the district. Earlier on the first day of Eidul Fitr, two teenagers drowned in the Haripur dam lake.

Khanpur police Station SHO Saddiq Shah told The Express Tribune that 16-year-old Abdul Muaiz, a resident of Adila Road in Rawalpindi, fell into the spillway stream and drowned.

He added that police has also recovered the body of a 45-year-old man who had washed ashore in the lower area of the dam. They added that they recovered cash and documents of a motorbike (registration: RIK-2602) from his pocket.
