Energy needs: Thar coal project to begin by 2013

Pakistan has enough coal reserves to fulfill energy needs of the country for more than 500 years.

ISLAMABAD: Dr Samar Mubarakmand, member Science and Technology Planning Commission, expressed the view that Thar coal project will be operational by December 2013. Talking to PTV on Tuesday, he said that electricity generated through Thar coal gas fields would cost below Rs2 per unit and Pakistan has enough coal reserves to fulfill energy needs of the country for more than 500 years.
