Elderly couple axed to death in Karachi

A former domestic worker killed the couple while attempting to rob their home

KARACHI: An elderly couple was axed to death, while the male nurse attending to them was critically injured, during a robbery bid at their home in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority Phase VI on Thursday.

Darakshan SHO Naseer Tanoli stated the incident occurred when the couple's former employee, Nawaz, attempted to rob Javed Ifitkhar, 85, and his wife Salma Bibi, 80, after murdering them and slitting their nurse's throat, he added.

Tanoli further said that the police were alerted after a daughter of the deceased, residing on the first floor of the house, heard their screams and called her relatives.

The accused had reportedly collected cash and gold jewellery from the house and was attempting to flee as the police reached the house. The police suspect that Nawaz attempted the robbery with an accomplice who managed to escape.

Tanoli added that there was no security guard or watchman posted outside the house, while the injured nurse, 22-year-old Umar, was the only eyewitness. Further investigation is underway.
