RAWALPINDI: The release of salaries by government and private institutions ahead of Eidul Fitr has spurred shopping in the garrison city.

The main markets of Rawalpindi, including Saddar and other bazaars, were crowded with people on Tuesday.

Stores related to garments, shoes and other accessories in the city have reopened after a relaxation in the lockdown, imposed to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19). This provided several options to shoppers.

The hot weather of the garrison city during the day did not prove to be a hindrance for people and the enthusiasm of shoppers, who had stayed confined to their homes for over a month.

The shopkeepers used the situation as an opportunity and have increased prices of their products by at least 50 per cent, some shoppers complained.
