Islamabad’s housing scheme petitions merged

IHC will hear cases pending for nine years together with commercial use case on May 21

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday compiled all petitions relating to housing societies operating in the federal capital under the umbrella of different government institutions or departments.

These petitions have been pending before the court for the past nine years and IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah had ordered the court registrar to compile all such applications and club it with the latest one related to commercial use of the Naval Farms.

IHC sources told The Express Tribune that some 45 petitions related to illegal housing schemes or those where government institutions had started a housing project on commercial basis were filed between 2011 and 2019. These societies include the Interior Ministry Cooperative Housing Society, FIA employees cooperative housing society, Ministry of Commerce Housing Society, Federal Shariat Court Employees Housing Society, National Assembly Cooperative Housing Society, IB Employees Cooperative Housing Society, National Police Foundation Cooperative Housing Society and the Central Board of Revenue Cooperative Housing Society. The cases filed during the nine-year-long period against the schemes include contempt petitions against the lower court orders, cases relating allotment, taxes, etc.

All these applications will be heard with the case against the commercial use of housing schemes by government institutions on May 21.

CDA is also expected to submit a detailed report on all housing projects which were initiated illegally or are run by government departments.
