Indian troops resorted to indiscriminate fire at a house in Jijot village along the Line of Control (LoC), leaving a citizen seriously injured, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) said on Monday.

“Indian army troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation in Khuiratta Sector along the LoC deliberately targeting civilian population,” the military’s media wing said.

The injured evacuated to nearby health facility and provided with necessary medical care, the communiqué added.

Earlier in the day, a senior Indian diplomat was summoned to the Foreign Office to lodge a strong protest over the ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces in Khuiratta Sector along the LoC on Sunday.

According to FO spokesperson Aisha Farooqui, due to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing by the Indian forces, 37-year-old Muhammad Shafi, resident of Jijot village, sustained serious injuries.

She said the Indian forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary have continuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars and automatic weapons.

In 2020, India has so far committed 1081 ceasefire violations.

Condemning the deplorable targeting of innocent civilians by the Indian troops, the spokesperson underscored that such senseless acts are in clear violation of the 2003 ceasefire understanding, and are also against all established humanitarian norms and professional military conduct.

“These egregious violations of international law reflect consistent Indian attempts to escalate the situation along the LoC and are a threat to regional peace and security,” she added.

Farooqui said the Indian troops display complete disregard for human rights by repeated shelling and firing resulting in a large number of civilian martyrdoms and injuries.
