10-year-old found dead in toilet in Lahore

Boy had left home for a market along with a cousin

LAHORE: A labourer’s 10-year-old son was found dead in a toilet of an under-construction building in Nawab Town in the wee hours of Sunday.

Muhammad Anwar Hameed, a resident of Samasni village, stated in a complaint submitted to Nawab Town police that his wife sent their son Ghulam Mustafa, along with his cousin Abu Bakar, to buy food for Iftar at around 6pm on Saturday.

Reportedly, the boy got separated from his cousin in the market.

After waiting for some time, when he did not return, the family started searching for him and spotted his body in a washroom of a nearby under-construction building.

The victim’s family informed the police about the incident. A police team reached the spot and moved the body to the morgue for autopsy. They also collected forensic evidence from the location and recorded statements of witnesses.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sadar Ghazanfar Gilani said that the cause of
the death would be determined through the forensic report.

Sahil, an organisation working for children rights, reported recently that out of the total 2,846 cases of crimes against children in the country last year, 53% were reported from Punjab.

The organisation has compiled data from different national and regional newspapers of the country regarding abuse of children.
