RAWALPINDI: Three traffic wardens ended up getting suspended for allegedly whipping three young motorcyclists with belts on Saturday, allegedly for riding their motorbikes in precarious manner.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) took strict notice of the abuse of power committed by the traffic policemen and suspended them to ensure a fair investigation of the matter.
Police officials told The Express Tribune that three motorcyclists including Syed Faisal, Syed Saad, and Syed Junaid were stopped by the traffic police in New Town police circle. All three motorcyclists were lashed with a belt by the wardens for flouting the ban on pillion riding owing to which they got seriously wounded.
However, the New Town police gave a clean chit to the traffic personnel in the entire matter. They registered a case against the victims for interfering in the state affairs for resisting the policemen.
However, as the information spread, CPO took notice of the incident and ordered the suspension of the personnel including Syed Arsalan, Mudassir Shah and Syed Shamraiz, a police spokesperson said.
This is the second case recently in the district where motorists have been beaten by the traffic personnel.
The civil society has demanded the Punjab IG to conduct a fair investigation of the matter.
