4 roads to be remodeled to ease traffic flow in Rawalpindi

Rs200 million project will be financed from MPA, MNA funds

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi district administration has issued tenders for remodeling of four roads in the district along with the construction of a bridge over Nullah Kansi.

All five uplift projects would collectively cost Rs200.66 million which would be drawn from the funds earmarked for MPAs and MNAs.

Punjab Parliamentary Secretary Jails Raja Sagheer Ahmed said that he had fulfilled another election promise. Talking to The Express Tribune he said that they believed in the politics of public welfare work instead of hollow promises.

Under the project, the administration would lay 90-kilometres (kms) of new roads. The tracks in all four road remodeling projects would be transformed into two-lane roads to ease the traffic flow.

As per the documents read by The Express Tribune, the cost of 38kms long road from Rawalpindi to Kahuta is estimated to be around Rs40.25 million while a 23kms track from Kahuta to Bewar will cost as much as Rs60.63 million. Further, the estimated cost for 40kms long road from Rawat to Kalar Syedan is Rs50 million.

The two-lane thoroughfare from Dhok Syedan, one of the densely populated areas of Rawalpindi, to Thalian Motorway would cost Rs1.4 million.

Moreover, the district administration has decided to build a bridge over Nullah Kansi which will cost Rs40.60 million. This natural stream is deemed dangerous as it overflows during the monsoon season every year, flooding the adjoining areas. The stream becomes disastrous and causes hundreds of accidents particularly during the torrential rains.
