High prices: Date prices shoot up 30%

Dates were sold at Rs2,200 to Rs2,500 per 40kg the previous year but they will be sold at Rs4,200 to Rs4,500 this year

KARACHI: The prices of dates climbed by 30% on the eve of Ramazan. The crop in Sukkur and Khairpur is in its initial stages. According to traders, the date season will begin from the middle of Ramazan. Dates in the market were imported from Iran and Iraq last year. Dates were sold at Rs2,200 to Rs2,500 per 40kg the previous year but they will be sold at Rs4,200 to Rs4,500 this year, according to the general secretary of the Khajoor Merchants Association.
