District police officers (DPOs) are to get administrative control of the Elite Force in a move that the police hope will improve efficiency and discipline, The Express Tribune has learnt.
The functioning and administration of the Elite Force was discussed at a meeting chaired by Inspector General Javed Iqbal at Police Headquarters on Monday. A police source said the officials felt that changes were needed to improve discipline and efficiency.
“The Elite Force personnel know that their disciplinary matters and leave issues are not in the control of the area police officer so they get careless. Officers have often complained about this,” he said. He said that DPOs had to coordinate with the Elite Force SP to get personnel for raids. Giving the DPOs more control would save time spent in coordination, he said. Bahawalpur RPO Captain (r) Syed Muhammad Abid Qadri said he believed the move was a good decision. “The Elite Force personnel will know that complaints against them will go to the DPO,” he said.
