Police, FIA arrest three alleged target killers

One of the arrested persons is said to be a Lyari gangster

KARACHI: Special invetigation unit (SIU) police and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Tuesday to have arrested three target killers, including an alleged Lyari gang war member, in two separately conducted joint raids.

Two suspects, Bani Gul and Muhammad Aqeel, were arrested during one of the joint operations.

According to SIU officials, Gul and Aqeel, who have been allegedly trained in Afghanistan, confessed to carrying out the targeted killing of two FIA officials at Burns Road in Karachi in 2008 during initial interrogation. The suspects have also revealed their involvement in several murders and dozens of other serious crimes in the city, according to the officials.

Weapons and ammunition, among other items, were confiscated from their possession.

Separately, the SIU and FIA arrested an alleged Lyari gang member, identified as Shehzad alias Chotu. Weapons and ammunition were confiscated from his possession.

The officials maintained that Shehzad had confessed to his involvement in over 40 targeted killings of citizens and political leaders, carried out through the 'Baba Ladla' group, on the orders of deceased Uzair Baloch.
