The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has for the third time summoned Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) president and opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif in the case pertaining to possession of assets beyond means.

After failing to appear twice before, despite being in the country both the times, the opposition leader has been directed to appear in court on Monday.

According to sources, Shehbaz has been directed to appear along with the required documents at noon tomorrow.

Earlier, the PML-N president had submitted the required documents through his counsel but the bureau was not satisfied with the reply.

In a declaration, NAB claimed that according to the law, Sharif should appear and provide the required information in person, and should cooperate with the corruption watchdog in the ongoing investigation against him.

The country’s top graft buster  had earlier asked the National Assembly Leader of Opposition to appear before its combined investigations team (CIT) on April 22.

On April 17, Shehbaz had skipped a NAB hearing as he requested the court to exempt him from appearing before the NAB investigators till end of the coronavirus pandemic in view of his health conditions.

The PML-N president had to appear before the CIT at its Lahore Office. The CIT had asked Shehbaz Sharif to submit bank details from 2005 to 2007.
