RAWALPINDI: To offer residents of the city healthy activities, the Parks and Horticulture ( PHA) have prepared a plan to build a modern fitness centre in the garrison city.

The fitness facility is expected to be built on 60-Kanals of land adjoining the Allama Iqbal Park on Double Road.

PHA officials say the gym will be equipped with a modern fitness gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a spa. The PHA will also allocate space for the construction of different restaurants and eateries inside the centre.

Membership for the facility will only be reserved for residents of the city, officials added.

PHA Chairman Asif Mehmood confirmed the development. While talking to The Express Tribune, he said that the government has granted its formal approval for the project, adding that once complete, it will be a gift for the residents of the garrison city.

Mehmood further said that given the large population of women in the city, the facility will include a segregated area for them.

Talking about the pool, the PHA chief said that they plan to build one as per international standards. The PHA chairman further asserted that work on the project will commence at the beginning of the new fiscal year in July and it is expected to be completed within a year.

Currently, all such facilities in the city are closed as part of precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), depriving locals of places and means to maintain their fitness.
