Senator Shibli Faraz takes oath as information minister

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Shibli Faraz was sworn in as the new information minister on Tuesday, in a ceremony held at the President House.

He was administered the oath by President Dr Arif Alvi. The ceremony was attended by various members of the federal cabinet.

On April 27, Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed Senator Faraz as the new information minister and Lt-Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa as his special assistant on information and broadcasting.

The latter was appointed in place of Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, who was de-notified as the SAPM with immediate effect.

“The Prime Minister has been pleased to remove Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan from the office of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, with immediate effect,” read a notification issued by the cabinet division.

Through another notification, the prime minister appointed Lt. General (Rtd) Asim Saleem Bajwa as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, in an honorary capacity, with immediate effect.

Earlier, Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry, who was the first information minister of the PTI government, broke the news of the latest cabinet change. He said the both Faraz and Bajwa “will make a great team”.

“Prime Minister can better tell the real reasons behind the move but PTI workers are happy that an old party face has been made the information minister,” Chaudhry told The Express Tribune in reference to Senator Faraz's appointment.

“Making Shibli Faraz as the information minister will send a good message to party workers,” he added.
