Profiteers fined Rs0.45m in ICT

Islamabad DC has directed district administration to take stringent action against the profiteers during Ramazan

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad district administration on Sunday imposed fines worth Rs0.45 million on shopkeepers involved in profiteering.

Assistant commissioners (ACs) of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) conducted operations against profiteers in different areas of the city. Collectively, they imposed fines worth Rs447,000. The Industrial Area AC checked some 40 shops and imposed a fine of Rs150,000. Similarly, Saddar AC fined some 45 shopkeepers for selling daily use items at exorbitant rates.

Some 40 shops were fined Rs30,000 by the Shalimar AC, while 45 shopkeepers faced collective penalties of Rs51,000 by City AC. Secretariat and Koral AC imposed fines of Rs 102,000 on as many as 47 shops collectively.

Several other ACs carried out an action against such retailers and shopkeepers as well. DC has directed the district administration to take stringent action against the profiteers during the fasting month.
