LAS VEGAS: Lamont Peterson claimed a 12th-round stoppage victory over Victor Cayo in Las Vegas to put himself in line for a world title clash with Amir Khan later this year. The 27-year-old American produced a dominant display in this IBF light-welterweight eliminator and is now the number one contender to face Khan, who took the belt from Zab Judah last week. Bolton’s Khan, also the WBA champion, is expected to have one more fight before stepping up to 147 lbs in order to set up a potential showdown with the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather junior. Peterson’s victory improves his record just enough, with the only defeat of his career so far coming against WBC and WBO champion Timothy Bradley.
