Princess Sofia of Sweden has just traded in tiaras for scrubs!

Yes, the Princess is one royal who isn't afraid to set benchmarks - this time in the form of joining the front lines in the battle with coronavirus as the pandemic ravages countries across the globe.

After completing an intensive training program online, Princess Sofia has now started working at the Sophiahemmet Hospital, reported E! News. 

"Princess Sofia is not only Sophia's honorary chair, but now also works with us. This is after having completed our basic nursing education, which has been developed to relieve the now severely strained healthcare staff," confirmed the hospital on Instagram.

Princess Sofia herself took to Instagram to confirm her involvement in a long post, which was then translated. "Last week, I went through a medical education with a major in health, care and care at @sophiahemmet," she wrote.

"Within the framework of the ‘emergency response,' I am now placed in one of the hospital's care units where, together with other newly trained colleagues, I support and relieve the care staff with various tasks, including care of patients and cleaning," explained the Princess.

Although she is relatively new to the experience, she added that she feels it is "extremely rewarding."

The Princess' help is much needed currently - the emergency training program has been launched with around 80 people completing it each week because the hospital is struggling to cope with rising number of cases, reported People.

As part of her services, Princess Sofia will be working directly with doctors and nurses to assist them, and not patients. "They can disinfect equipment, do shifts in the kitchen and cleaning," a spokesperson for the hospital explained.
