Qureshi draws UNSC attention to new domicile law in IOK

FM says Kashmiris fear Delhi’s move will alter region’s demography

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday drew the attention of the United Nations Security Council towards the new domicile law enacted by the Indian government in Occupied Kashmir.

Diplomatic sources have said that the foreign minister, in a letter to the council, stated that the new law has spread fear among the Kashmiris because the outsiders in big numbers will settle in the region to alter its demography.



Qureshi said that amid the global coronavirus pandemic, such a measure by the Indian government is regrettable. He added that India was taking advantage of the international focus on the fight against COVID-19.

The three-page letter, which was handed to the chair of the council the other day, clearly stated that the new Indian domicile law was a violation of the international laws and conventions.
