WASA plans new tube wells

At least Rs53.8 million rupees have been earmarked for tube wells

RAWALPINDI: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has approved installing eight new tube-wells and three major water supply schemes to address the water shortage in the garrison city.

The utility service has invited tenders to start these projects which will approximately cost Rs80.05 million, officials said, adding that installation of tube wells will be completed in two months.

Work on the mega schemes will start in the first week of May and water supply from all these new tube wells will start early in July, they said.

At least Rs53.8 million rupees have been earmarked for tube wells, while completion of three water supply schemes will cost Rs26.7 million, officials said. The estimated cost digging and installing a tube well was around Rs6.7 million, they said.

However, they said, new tube wells will be installed in union councils which have dearth of water.
