For many women, make-up is an essential part of their daily lives

For many women, make-up is an essential part of their daily lives. Whether it’s a slick of gloss or a coat of mascara, a touch of make-up can make you look and feel great. Applying make-up can boost your confidence and it is the perfect way to add that finishing touch to your look. The type of make-up you opt for can make or break your look. But did you know there are certain make-up habits that you may be indulging in that could be doing your skin more harm than good?

Do you sometimes feel too tired at the end of the day to remove all your make-up and indulge in a cleansing routine? Do you skip the sunscreen when you’re in a rush? Do you let a friend borrow that mascara without even thinking twice? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then you’re definitely harming your skin without even realising. And so, here are some habits you should adopt for healthy, glowing skin.

1. Remove your make-up and wash your face every night

There will be days when you will find it hard to motivate yourself to take off your make-up at night before you go to sleep but this is the most basic and most essential step. To avoid hurting your skin, it’s essential to develop this habit. For the process, start with a cleansing balm to remove all the surface layer make-up and follow it up by washing your face with a good foam, facial cleanser.

2. Moisturise, wear SPF, repeat

Many people only use moisturiser and skip the sunscreen as a part of their daily make-up routine. Some even skip the moisturiser. But they really shouldn’t. Moisturiser can help to alleviate the dryness make-up can cause, and sunscreen can help with anti-aging efforts. A moisturiser should always be used as a base for your make-up and this will also give your make-up a smooth finish. If you want to save time, you can also opt for one that combines a moisturiser and an SPF in one.

3. Clean your brushes regularly

We can not stress the importance of cleaning your brushes. It can be difficult to do this regularly if you wear make-up on a daily basis, but is still an important habit to adopt. Deep cleaning your brushes once a month  will help get rid of the harmful bacteria on the brushes that come from your skin — from sweat and dead skin cells — and the bacteria that comes from make-up products.

4. Don’t share make-up products

If you like a friend’s lip colour and think about trying it on, you should definitely think twice. Sharing beauty products spreads bacteria and will be damaging to your skin in the long run. You don’t know how long the product has been around and who else borrowed it the same way you are thinking about borrowing it.

5. Find products that work for your skin

Products that work for your friends may not necessarily work for you because everyone’s skin is different. You have to pay attention to the way your skin reacts to certain ingredients and products. Some products may be drying for your skin, while others can cause you to break out. By testing different things you can find the make-up that is best suited to your skin type.

Follow these simple habits that will get you healthy, glowing skin that you aspire to have. Make-up doesn’t have to be bad for your skin, but it can cause problems if you practice unhealthy make-up habits. These simple steps can save you from unwanted acne, early ageing and dry or oily skin.
