ISLAMABAD: With the anti-malarial drug chloroquine phosphate touted as a potential cure to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) on Sunday issued a stern warning to anyone hoarding stocks of the medicine.
It stated that reports had emerged that some people were hoarding stocks of chloroquine phosphate while drug stores across the country are reserving medicines containing the chemical.
DRAP said that hoarding of drugs was against social values as well as Islamic teachings. It directed all pharmacies and chemists to ensure the provision of medicines prepared from the formula to those with prescriptions.
Explaining guidelines, DRAP instructed that drugs containing chloroquine phosphate can only be sold at licensed drug stores and pharmacies and upon production of a prescription from a registered doctor. The drug stores have been instructed to devise records of all prescriptions as well.
