KARACHI: Despite large contingents of law enforcement personnel being stationed across the city, unidentified men looted a mobile market in the Metroville area, near the Pirabad police station, early on Sunday.

The culprits broke the locks of at least ten shops, looted mobile phones worth millions of rupees and fled the scene.

According to Pirabad SHO Ashok Kumar, five unidentified suspects arrived at the market and broke through the chains at the main gate with a pickup vehicle.

Though the security guard stationed at the market, Taj Shah, immediately came up to try to intervene, the men tied him up with ropes and beat him.

They then proceeded to enter the market and broke the locks of at least ten shops. Looting mobile phones worth millions of rupees as well as cash, they then managed to escape easily.

Kumar stated that the thieves had only targeted large shops.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
