Cambridge students to be graded on 'skills, knowledge' amid coronavirus crisis

May-June examinations cancelled throughout the world

KARACHI: Cambridge International has decided to cancel all examinations with students now being graded based on skills and knowledge gained in their respective courses as novel coronavirus outbreak brings the world to a standstill.

"We have taken the difficult decision not to run our international examinations in the May/June 2020 series in any country," a statement released by the international examination's body reads.

"The situation with the Covid-19 outbreak is changing rapidly. In recent days, many more countries have decided to extend school closures into May and June, making it impossible for many of our schools to hold examinations.We have been consulting closely with our global community of schools, who need as much certainty as possible at an uncertain time.,"it goes on to say.

O, A-Level exams postponed in Pakistan

Cambridge International clarified that the utmost priority is the safety and wellbeing of students and teachers.

The Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level, Cambridge International AS & A Level, Cambridge AICE Diploma and Cambridge Pre-U have all been postponed.

"We will be working with schools to assess students’ achievements using the best available evidence.

"We are working on how exactly to arrive at those decisions and the evidence that will be taken into consideration and more details will be shared on 26 March," Cambridge International Country Director for Pakistan  Uzma Yousuf said.
