QUETTA: Quetta Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Abdul Razzaq Cheema on Friday hailed the performance of police department, saying the security personnel ensured protection of people’s lives and property across the province.

He said this while distributing certificates and cash awards among policemen on the directives of Balochistan Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohsin Hassan Butt.

The DIG lauded the personnel who had foiled a bid of snatching Rs1 million through timely action.

Two armed robbers intercepted Abdul Waheed, the victim, while he was on his way to buy a new vehicle with cash in hand. They snatched Rs1 million at gunpoint and escaped. However, Abdul Waheed immediately informed Madad Gar police who arrived on the scene and cordoned off the area.

The robbers opened fire on security personnel as they drove in hunt of the former. But the police managed to arrest Mohammad Qasim with a pistol and the cash at Halli Chowk, Quetta.

Abdul Waheed announced a cash prize of Rs25,000 for each personnel who took part in the action to recover the snatched money.
